Blatchford supports Boston Marathon bombing survivor to become a runner
Posted on 18th February 2015
On Tuesday 17th February, TV show ‘The Doctors’ surprised Rebekah Gregory DiMartino with a BladeXT running blade, generously donated by Blatchford North America. We hope that using the BladeXT will help Rebekah achieve her goal of running in the Boston Marathon 2015.
On 15th April 2013 Rebekah’s life changed forever when a bomb detonated less than 10 feet from Rebekah while cheering on runners at the Boston Marathon. After 18 months of pain and 17 major reconstructions to try to save her left leg, Rebekah opted for amputation, allowing her life to move forward once again.
Before her amputation in November, Rebekah gave her foot ‘one last pedicure’ and threw a goodbye party. Only relief was felt after waking up after the operation.
In January, Rebekah took her first steps on her newly fitted prosthesis with her mother and son by her side. Nearly 2 years after the attack and less than 3 months since her amputation, Rebekah is in training for the 2015 Boston Marathon in April and now spends 2 hours a day in the gym and 1 hour in physio. Rebekah is determined to cross the finish line on her new leg.
“Why on Earth would I put myself through this? It’s quite simple: To show myself—and the rest of the world—that I can.” Rebekah DiMartino.
